War in Syria · June 03, 2012
China and Russia are reconsidering their support for the regime of Bashar Assad in Syria after a horrific massacre of over 100 people recently including children. Attempts to broker peace by the United Nations have been fruitless. The west presently holds the president solely responsible.
“China… strongly censured the violence, saying it ‘condemns in the strongest terms the cruel killings of ordinary citizens, especially women and children.’”
Russia’s Foreign Minister said, “The government (of Syria) bears the main responsibility for what is going on… Any government in any country bears responsibility for the security of its citizens.”
Australia, France and Germany all expelled the Syrian ambassadors to their countries.
Fewer than 20 of the 108 people who died in the massacre were killed by artillery fire. “Most of the rest of the victims were killed by summary executions carried out by the pro-government Shabiha militia.”
“Witnesses in the village also spoke of squads of gunmen rampaging through the village murdering unarmed civilians.”
Attempts at diplomacy are buying time for the Assad government. Money from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia is being used by the insurgents to buy weapons, assuring a long civil war.
“Syria is experiencing a full-blown civil war…”
“This conflict has the potential to set the entire Middle East ablaze.”
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.” Matthew 24:6-8
