What Happens to People in a Severe Economic Crisis? · April 13, 2012
When an economic crisis hits a nation, there are some predictable things that happen to people who are affected by it.
In an article on economic crisis in Greece, the UK Guardian wrote that in Greece, “The social implications have been catastrophic. Entire communities have been devastated by unemployment, losing the means to live as well as the norms, customs and respect of regular work. Barter has appeared among the poor and the not so poor. Medical services in working-class areas are running low on basic provisions. Schools and transport are disintegrating. People are abandoning cities to return to agriculture, a sure sign of social retrogression.”
Note that returning to agriculture as a means of support and even survival is considered to be a sign of regression. In reality, at least for God’s people that is His plan. Perhaps difficult economic times have the unintended consequences of motivating people to leave their city life and move to the country.
Perhaps God’s people ought to heed His counsel about country living and begin growing their own gardens as a means of future survival.
Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. Country Living, page 9, 10
