Three Major Earthquakes in a Row · October 12, 2009

Three major earthquakes occurred in rapid succession around the Pacific “Ring of Fire.” An 8.3 quake between Samoa and American Samoa September 29, 2009 set off deadly, 15-25 ft (5-8 meter) Tsunamis that wiped out low-lying villages and killed at least 190 people on the Islands.

Hours later another 7.9 earthquake struck Sumatra, Indonesia, killing at least 1,100 people and flattening more than 500 buildings in Padang, a city of 900,000. Rescuers, at the time of this writing, are still trying to dig the dead and survivors trapped in the rubble. The death toll is sure to rise dramatically, perhaps as high as between 4000-6000, as whole villages have been obliterated. About 400 people were attending a wedding when the earth opened up and sucked them all down 90 feet (30 meters) and swallowed them up. Even the minaret of the mosque, which was more than 60 feet (20 meters) tall, disappeared into the earth. A second quake, 6.8 in magnitude, struck about 180 miles from the epicenter of the first quake the next morning (October 1) causing more damage.

Later that day, a fourth major earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck SE Peru near Bolivia. Then on Saturday, October 3, 2009 a 6.1 struck Taiwan and on Sunday, October 4, 2009 another 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck near the Philippines.
Earthquakes happen every day and frequently, but most are small and do little if any visible damage and most people don’t take notice of them. There can be up to 30 quakes or more per day around the world.

On Wednesday, September 30, for instance there were actually 24 earthquakes greater than 5.0 magnitude. There were far more than that if those under 5.0 are included. They were scattered far and wide including Alaska (USA), Central California (USA), Figi, Kamchatka (Russia), Kepulauan Talaud (Indonesia), Kermadec Islands, the Loyalty Islands, Montana (USA), Nevada (USA), Papua New Guinea, Peru/Bolivia, Samoa Islands region, Sumatra (Indonesia), Tonga, and Washington State (USA).

In recent times, there has been a significant increase in major earthquake activity. India Daily reported in 2005 that since 2004 there has been an 80% (that year) of major earthquakes and that the number is increasing exponentially. Since 1997, the number of earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 6.0 have dramatically escalated. The chart below tells the story. In the last 10 years, there have been an average of one major earthquake every 10 days.

Notice the following two charts for earthquakes of greater than 7.0 magnitude and greater than 8.0 magnitude for the last 100+ years.

The following charts show the concentration of major earthquakes in a slightly different way.

2009 is the second highest year for major 6.0 magnitude earthquakes in history. If the rate continues on its present course it will surpass the all time record year for major quakes in 2007 of 47 quakes. The average number of major quakes per year over the last 100 years is 3.4. We are in a time of unprecedented earthquake activity.

Jesus said that at the end of time before He comes again, there would be earthquakes in divers places. How more accurate could He have been that what we are seeing now.
