U.S. – Vatican Cooperation · February 01, 2010
There are many ways that the Catholic Church works to cooperate with governments in humanitarian projects. These increase Rome’s profile and helps smooth the way for other levels of cooperation. Among other things, the U.S. is actively involved in AIDs prevention through cooperation with the Catholic Church.
On December 1 Catholic New Agency reported that the new U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, Dr. Miguel H. Diaz, U.S. said that the “cooperation of the United States and the [Catholic] Church in the fight against AIDS [is] ‘one of the most relevant’
“Cooperation with the Catholic Church and its extensive network of sanitary assistance has been instrumental in reaching [many people in the poorest places,” Diaz wrote in a letter.
“Collaboration between the Holy See and the U.S. government extends beyond ‘fieldwork,’” he said, citing an international conference on Pediatric aids in November of 2009 where governments, NGOs and religious organization were encouraged to work together.
“The ambassador added that the United States pledges ‘to continue working together with its world partners, among them the Holy See and the many organizations tied to it…”
